Family-Based Mental Health

The goal of Family-Based Mental Health service is to eliminate the imminent risk of out-of- home placement and/or legal involvement for identified youth. Medical necessity for this level of mental health service must be established through an evaluation by a Pennsylvania licensed psychologist or psychiatrist. Family-Based Mental Health Services are intensive, team delivered therapy and case management to identified youth and their families in their home, school, and community.

Family Based Mental Health Services utilizes the Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) evidenced-based model of family therapy. The model is based upon four pillars of treatment:

  1. Emotional regulation
  2. Parent-child attachment
  3. Executive parenting skills
  4. Support to the caregiver

An individualized, comprehensive treatment plan is developed with the youth, family, school, if appropriate, and involved agencies. Trauma informed treatment, supportive interventions, referral to community resources, and skill building activities are employed to improve individual and family functioning, increase prosocial activities, and promote healthy parent-child relationships.
