State of the Art Food Service Instruction
The Food Service Program at George Junior Republic prepares students for employment in commercial or institutional food establishments or other food industry occupations. Our vocational school has a state of the art food service and prep kitchen so that students can learn all aspects of the food service industry. Areas of instruction include theory, laboratory, and work experience related to:
- Planning, selecting, preparing, and serving quality food and food products
- Nutritive values
- Use and care of commercial equipment
- Sanitation precaution
Students who want to seek employment in entry level food service positions receive instruction in skills that will prepare them for life as productive and responsible adults.
The Food Service Program readies students for post graduate employment by preparing them to earn their ServSafe®Food Handler certification from the National Restaurant Association. Practical, hands on experience includes using commercial grade equipment to prepare meals for large groups on a weekly basis and for group home events such as the graduation luncheon. Students are responsible for prep work, cooking, serving, and clean up of the kitchen and the dining area.
