Strong Connections Building Stronger Futures

At George Junior Republic, we believe that every young person thrives when they have positive role models to guide, encourage, and inspire them. That’s why programs like Bigs and Littles play such an important role in helping our youth grow into confident, capable individuals.

The Bigs and Littles initiative connects youth on campus (“Littles”) with caring mentors (“Bigs”) — staff members and older peers who provide friendship, leadership, and guidance. Through shared activities, open conversations, and consistent support, these relationships help youth build trust, develop life skills, and experience what it means to be part of a caring community.

Whether they’re playing a game of basketball, working on a creative project, or simply spending time together, Bigs and Littles learn from one another. The mentorship fosters empathy, patience, and respect — values that extend far beyond campus life.

Programs like this are at the heart of CARE (Connecting, Advocating, Restoring, Empowering). By forming genuine human connections, we empower youth to believe in themselves and their potential. Every smile shared, every new skill learned, and every goal achieved represents another step toward healing and hope.

At GJR, we’re proud to see how these partnerships continue to make a lasting difference. Because when youth realize that someone believes in them — truly believes — incredible things begin to happen.
