Read MoreA Thanksgiving Tradition Rooted in CARE
At GJR in PA, Thanksgiving is an extra special chance to show our youth that they matter, that they belong, and they’re cared for. Each year, our annual Thanksgiving feast brings the campus together for a warm, family-style meal filled with connection, comfort, and community.
For many of the youth we serve, this celebration carries a deeper meaning. Some have never experienced Thanksgiving at all, while others aren’t able to go home and spend the holiday with their families. Sitting down to a shared meal becomes more than a tradition—it becomes a reminder that they’re not alone. A reminder that they’re part of a community that shows up for them.
Staff across campus work together to create a welcoming and festive environment, serving classic Thanksgiving favorites and offering moments of normalcy that can mean everything during the holiday season. The feast sparks conversations, laughter, and memories that stay with our youth long after the holidays end.
In true CARE spirit, this tradition centers relationships, belonging, and emotional safety. Thanksgiving at GJR isn’t about the table settings or the menu—it’s about creating a space where every young person feels valued, included, and supported.
Because here, holidays aren’t measured in hours. They’re measured in moments of connection—and those moments matter.
